How to install XAMPP on Windows 10?

In this article, I will be guiding you on how to install XAMPP on Windows 10. It has been considered a good practice to create and test your project on a local server before launching to the web world (live server).

If you are about to create project-based on PHP and MYSQL. XAMPP is a great local server to complete your server requirement. It’s obvious it is not inbuilt in the system. You have to download it from a third party.

Let’s start then, XAMPP is a cross-platform local server and distributed by apache friends. You can download XAMPP from its official website.

STEP 1: Download XAMPP

STEP 2: Begin installation and go through the next button in the setup wizard

Now the file has been downloaded with .exe extension, click on it to open the setup wizard. You will see the following screen and all you have to do is click on the Next button and in the end click on the finish button.

if you see warning popup about UAC you have hit the ok button to begin with the installation.

Now hitting on the next button trip is over and time to finish it. All the files required to run a local server is unpacked. Now click on the Finish button to end the installation process.

STEP 3: Launch XAMPP control panel

Now you have successfully installed the XAMPP server. Its time start the server, in order to do that in system search “XAMPP control panel” and click on it. A window of the control panel will popup. Now to test everything is running well and good, click on the start button of “Apache”, “MySQL” etc.

STEP 4: Verify the local server

Now we have started our apache server, to verify that it is running open your browser and write the following URL,

This url will redirect to “http://localhost/dashboard”.

In order to check phpmyadmin run the following URL ( make sure you have started MYSQL in XAMPP control panel )

http://localhost/phpmyadmin

Additional info: Once you have installed XAMPP, a xampp named folder would have been created in your drive. In order to create a new project, you have to go to “htdocs” folder which would be available in the XAMPP folder.
